Every time we come back to Ghana there are always so many emotions / feelings / excitement / anticipation / expectancy… the list could go on and on. This year is no different. The pleasure of greeting the staff and old friends here… the thrill of seeing how the work has continued… the eagerness of folks to come greet and share what has been going on with them as they also want to hear all about our trip. And more than that, there is just breathing in the Tamale air (dust) and experiencing the climate change (HOT). It is all so exhilerating.

On Monday we came to Jirandogo with the masons to put up the second ‘bunk house’ for the students that board during classes to sleep as well as teams that come. Now it is Saturday and the walls are up already. It will all harden until Monday when the carpenters arrive to put on the roof. We have made a quick trip to Tamale today for supplies and return on Monday also. Well, as quick a trip as a 4 hour journey can be anyway. Praise God the road has not deteriorated too much yet so it is not too bad. Once the rains begin, it will be rough going I am sure.

We have been having some rains, but just as the spring rains around Indiana bring many storms and wind damage, so do the rains here. Wednesday the storms were so bad around Tamale that it blew down a lot of houses, flattened a church in Kpaligun, blew the roofs off many houses; one of which landed on the church at Kalpohine and damaged several of the roofing sheets there. Thankfully, we haven’t heard of anyone getting hurt in the storms.

The good news of the early rains is that the people around Jirandogo have already planted a lot of their crops.  The yams are in the mounds and the groundnuts are high enough to weed. I don’t think Tamale area has had that much rain yet but soon their crops will also be planted.

One other exciting thing going on with us is we are celebrating 45 years of marriage today. Such a long time that has passed with such speed. There have been plenty of ups and downs over those years, but we praise God that He held us together and allows us to be even more in love with each other today than we were all those years ago if that is possible. Have you hugged your spouse today? If not, stop right now and go get a good hug to help us celebrate!
